Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day didn’t give the game ball to a player after Saturday’s win against Maryland.

Day instead went and gave the ball to Kerry Coombs, who’s the Buckeyes defensive coordinator.

Coombs came into this season as the defensive coordinator for the 2nd season in a row, until he got some of his responsibilities taken away a few weeks ago. He wasn’t calling the plays after the Buckeyes win against Tulsa as defensive backs coach Matt Barnes had taken over those duties.

That said, Day looks to be happy with how it’s all transpired as the Buckeye defense was excellent against the Terps. The unit gave up just 17 points and intercepted Taulia Tagovailoa twice. OSU’s defense also only gave up 7 total points in the 2nd half.

If we look at the last 2 weeks, Ohio State has only given up 30 combined points to Maryland and Rutgers. Sometimes a small change is all a team needs to get back on track.
