Ryan Day provided some clarity in Tuesday’s weekly press conference on the situation the Ohio State head coach wanted from the Big Ten regarding the final moments of his team’s heartbreaking loss at Oregon a few weeks ago.

Because the Buckeyes had a bye last week and Day did not meet with the media, he was asked about sending in the final play of the 32-31 loss in Eugene to the Big Ten offices. Day revealed Ohio State felt there was still 1 second left in the game when quarterback Will Howard went down.

Unfortunately for Day and Ohio State, the Big Ten disagreed and said the game was indeed over when Howard was down. So, no 1 second left in the game and nothing to see here in Oregon’s pulsating win over Ohio State in Week 7.

It’s pretty standard practice that head coaches send in plays for clarification, and Day wanted that clarity, considering the dramatic nature of the loss and the Playoff implications surrounding the game.

“We sent it in. They said there was no time left,” was Day’s simple assessment of what happened, not wanting to harp on it too much.

Day went on to say regarding that final, fateful play that maybe next time they would call something quicker that would’ve left a little more time for the Buckeyes to have one more shot instead of the clock running out.

The Buckeyes will finally have a chance to bounce back on Saturday when they host Nebraska at noon ET on FOX.
