Ryan Day says Ohio State still dealing with ‘scar’ left from 2017 loss to Iowa

Ryan Day, along with his players and Buckeye fans, remembers 2017. That year, the Buckeyes ranked. No. 5 in the country at the time, traveled to Iowa to face the Hawkeyes and went into the game with a 7-1 record.

What was supposed to be an easy victory over the Hawkeyes, turned into a stunning 55-24 beatdown. And even though that was five years ago, Day says he and his team haven’t forgotten and it stays with them til this day.

“It’s a scar, that doesn’t go away. I’ve felt it this week, for sure. … It was a tough day for all of us. We’ve talked a lot about it to our staff, we’ve talked a lot about it to our players.”

At the time, it was the biggest upset in college football that season not just because of the victory but the margin of victory, so you know that the Buckeyes will want to avenge that loss this upcoming Saturday.

But unlike in 2017, this team cannot take Iowa lightly. The Hawkeyes may be struggling at the moment, but a victory Saturday in Columbus could change their whole season around at the expense of the Buckeyes.
