Ryan Day talks Ohio State’s depth at RB, Steele Chambers switch to LB

During Ryan Day’s media availability today, he touched on a multitude of topics, though two of the more important ones were regarding the running backs and Steele Chambers.
To start, Chambers will be moving from running back to linebacker. Day seems to think he’s a natural fit for the position and he’s hoping Chambers can provide some depth as well.

Before the switch was announced, Chambers was a running back for 2 seasons and had 28 total carries. His best season came in 2019 where he had 19 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown. His longest run during the season was 15 yards and he also averaged 7 yards a carry.
As for the running back depth, Day’s been giving all five quite a few reps to see who stands out going into the season.

The five running backs Day is talking about are Master Teague III, TreVeyon Henderson, Marcus Crowley, Miyan Williams, and Evan Pryor.
Teague is likely to get the starting role after having a sensational season last year. He had 104 carries for 514 yards and eight touchdowns. It’s a bit lower than his 2019 total of 789 rushing yards but he’s still the player with the most experience.
That being said, this looks to be an open competition, and Day hasn’t indicated who will get the majority of the reps yet this season.
We’ll have to see who stands out between now and the Buckeyes’ first game against Minnesota.
