Ryan Day informed reporters Tuesday that he was told by B1G officials that Chip Trayanum’s holding penalty which negated a Miyan Williams touchdown against Youngstown State “should not have been called.”
Here’s the play in question:
Chip Trayanum called for holding here. I don’t see it. Took away a TD. If it stood and OSU won 42-7, would people feel differently about the game? pic.twitter.com/qMvWqyagnd

This is significant because it’s a familiar circumstance for Day and the Buckeyes. They also had a touchdown negated in Week 1 after a penalty flag came in which B1G officials later said should not have been thrown.
The frustration here is obvious. Those scores may not matter much in hindsight, but what happens if that call is made with the game on the line? On a lesser note, it also affects “style points” (if you believe in that) for down the road in CFP determinations. A 30-3 win over Indiana looks slightly better than a 23-3 win, etc.
Ryan Day was told Chip Trayanum’s holding penalty that nullified Miyan Williams’ touchdown against Youngstown State should not have been called.
Second time in two weeks an Ohio State TD has been called back by a penalty Big Ten officials later said shouldn’t have been called.

The Buckeyes look to improve to 3-0 Saturday as they take on Western Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET on FOX.
