Ryan Day updates status of Buckeyes star WR Garrett Wilson

Following Saturday’s 26-17 win over Nebraska, Ohio State coach Ryan Day provided an update on the status of star receiver Garrett Wilson, who missed the game due to an undisclosed injury.
According to Day, the junior from Texas might be back for the fifth-ranked Buckeyes next Saturday at home against Purdue.
Ryan Day said Garrett Wilson is “day-to-day.”

Despite not playing against Nebraska, Wilson still leads the Buckeyes this season in receptions (43) and receiving yards (687) and is second on the team in touchdown catches (six). Last season, Wilson was first-team All-Big Ten after hauling in 43 passes for 723 yards and six TDs.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a historic game in Wilson’s absence against Nebraska as the sophomore from Texas set a single-game school record with 15 catches for 240 yards and one score. Smith-Njigba’s 240 receiving yards were the second-most in program history behind the late Terry Glenn’s 253 yards against Pitt on Sept. 24, 1995.
Ohio State (8-1, 6-0 Big Ten) will need continued contributions from Smith-Njigba and his teammates until Wilson returns to form.
