Ryan Hayes is ready for the Big House to be rocking. Isn’t every Michigan fan?

Hayes, the Wolverines’ starting left tackle, has 1 more shot in his career to take down in-state “little brother” Michigan State.

As 1 of the oldest players on the roster, Hayes understands what it takes to win, and having the battle of the Paul Bunyan Trophy occur at night in Ann Arbor might just give No. 4 Michigan the edge.

“The night game atmospheres are always awesome,” said Hayes. “Whenever we get under the lights at the Big House we get excited. It’s always a great experience.”

Michigan State has gone 2-0 against the Wolverines since the hiring of Mel Tucker in 2020.

During the COVID-19 all-conference schedule, then-MSU quarterback Rocky Lombardi threw for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns en route to a 27-24 upset at Michigan Stadium. Last season,  running back Kenneth Walker III took matters into his own legs, rushing for 197 yards and 5 TDs off 23 carries in a 37-33 win.

This season, the Spartans have struggled with playing consistent football. Meanwhile, the Wolverines haven’t missed a beat despite losing both offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and defensive coordinator Mike McDonald. Under new OC Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines rank 6th in scoring offense (42.7 points per game) and 19th in total offense (473.6 yards per game).
