Ryan Walters knows how crazy the Illinois defense can be. The Fighting Illini have one of the best defenses in the country.
Walters talked about how things don’t get out of control on Saturdays. There is a difference between being aggressive and physical while still playing within the confines of the game, and he understands that wholeheartedly.
It doesn’t get out of control because guys want to win games. You’ve got to play within the confines of the rules, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for failure. That is one way to lose games. If our goal is to win games, yeah, you want to play with an edge? Absolutely. Yeah, you want to be physical? Absolutely. You want to be able to impose your will on an opponent? Absolutely. You want to make the game personal? Absolutely. At the same time, it’s all within the confines of the rules and playing the game the right way.
Fans will get to see this balance in effect in Week 10. No. 16 Illinois faces Michigan State on Saturday.
Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on BTN.
