Walters explained that what it comes down to is adjustments being made. The Illinois DC has been able to switch up the gameplan based on what the opposing is throwing at them in the first half.

The Fighting Illini defense has been solid as a whole, not only in second halves. Illinois leads the nation in points allowed (8.9) and in total yards allowed per game (224.5).
Illinois faces a struggling Michigan State team in Week 10. The Spartans have lost 5 out of their last 6 games. Illinois last played Michigan State in 2019 and won 37-34.
