“They ain’t played nobody!”

Those are the words shouted out by almost everybody this time of year. And, if you’re like me, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. We’re six weeks into the season, so if a team is still undefeated at this point, they must be doing something right, regardless of competition.

Still, fans want to compare the strength of schedule. And if you’ve been of the belief that Ohio State — who is a perfect 6-0 right now — “ain’t played nobody,” then you might want to sit this one out.

According to the Sagarin Ratings, Ohio State has had the most difficult schedule of the remaining undefeated teams in college football. That’s right, of the 16 teams that have yet to drop a game, the Buckeyes’ road has been the most challenging.

Those rankings suggest that Ohio State has had the 19th toughest schedule in college football through six weeks. Next on that list is Clemson, coming in with the 35th ranked strength of schedule. Here is the full list:

Ohio State’s wins have come over the following teams (and records):

  • Florida Atlantic (3-2)
  • Cincinnati (4-1)
  • Indiana (3-2)
  • Miami (OH) (2-3)
  • Nebraska (4-2)
  • Michigan State (4-2)

Only one team on that schedule has a losing record, that being Miami (OH). The RedHawks’ three losses have come to Ohio State, Iowa and Cincinnati.

So, sorry if you’re in the “Ohio State hasn’t played anyone” crowd. Clearly they have, and they’re still 6-0.
