Saquon Barkley is the ultimate teammate. And in case you needed further proof of that, the second-year running back out of Penn State went out of his way to help a rookie on Friday night.

During the New York Giants-Chicago Bears preseason game on Friday, rookie running back Jon Hilliman scored his first career touchdown in an NFL jersey. It came on a 10-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving the Giants a 25-13 lead. After crossing the goal line, Hilliman tossed the ball to the side.

Typically, players like to hang on to the football that they first reached the end zone with, but Hilliman wasn’t thinking about the personal memento. But Barkley had his back.

Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com reported that Barkley chased down the football and handed it to Hilliman so the rookie could remember his first touchdown.

“That’s a good guy right there,” Hilliman said.

Barkley has earned a reputation as one of the good guys in the NFL. His personality and kindness match his talent and athleticism — a rare combination.

It’s probably a good reason why so many guys enjoy playing with him.
