Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been named one of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, presented to the top player in college football.

On Wednesday, the Walter Camp Football Foundation released the names of its five finalists. Barkley was the only player from the B1G to make the list.

Barkley is one of the nation’s top all-purpose backs, racking up 2,158 all-purpose yards this season, leading the B1G. He’s also scored 22 total touchdowns for Penn State this season, with 16 scores coming on the ground.

He also eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark as a rusher for the third time in his career.

For most of the season, Barkley has been considered one of the top candidates for the Heisman Trophy. Some of that hype tapered off after the Nittany Lions suffered back-t0-back road losses to Ohio State and Michigan State.

But Barkley has continued to prove that he’s one of the best athletes in the sport and is still one of the most powerful running backs on the field.

Other finalists included Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), Rashaad Penny (San Diego State), Lamar Jackson (Louisville) and Bryce Love (Stanford).
