Saquon Barkley to be honored by former high school this fall

Saquon Barkley is hoping for a bounceback season in 2021, and he will also receive a special honor from his high school this fall.
On Wednesday, Whitehall High School in Whitehall, Pennsylvania announced that they would retire Barkley’s jersey number on Sept. 10. According to Keith Groller with The Morning Call, Barkley will join Matt Millen and Dan Koppen as previous graduates to have their number retired.
“The opportunity to honor Saquon for outstanding accomplishments throughout his Zephyr football career is something we have been anxious to do,” said Whitehall athletic director Bob Hartman. “Saquon’s career through high school, college and the NFL has been on the same path as Matt and Danny. We are looking forward to an amazing night hosting Saquon, his family, friends and coaches.”
During his senior high school season, Barkley rushed for over 1,800 yards with 24 touchdowns. He finished his high school career with over 4,000 total yards and 61 touchdowns, including defensive touchdowns and touchdowns on special teams.
Barkley committed to Penn State as a 4-star prospect and the No. 119 player nationally for the class of 2015. He finished with over 5,000 yards of offense and 54 total touchdowns in 3 seasons with the Nittany Lions before being selected No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
