Since about the middle of the college football season, Dwayne Haskins has been regarded as one of the top quarterbacks eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft. After a record-breaking year at Ohio State, the gunslinger continues to climb on draft boards.
The father of Saquon Barkley thinks Haskins could be a difference-maker for the New York Giants, should he get drafted by the organization. He says drafting the former Buckeye could get the franchise to the Super Bowl within the next few years.
Earlier this week, Alibay Barkley told Newsday that he believes the Giants are a Super Bowl contender if they bring Haskins to New York.
“Two or three years, if not next year,” Alibay Barkley said. “It all depends on if they get Haskins.”
Last year, Haskins led the nation with 4,831 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes with a 70 percent completion rate. He only threw eight interceptions for the season. He’s recently climbed into Todd McShay’s top 10 list of 2019 NFL Draft prospects after his tremendous season in Columbus.
And with Saquon Barkley winning the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award after totaling over 2,000 yards from scrimmage with the Giants last fall, the duo would appear to pose an incredible threat in the NFC.
Alibay Barkley said that the plan would be for current Giants quarterback Eli Manning to “show him the ropes,” before becoming the starter in New York. But Barkley’s father would like to see Haskins “step right in,” should Manning go through some struggles next fall.
The Giants will have the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft following a 5-11 campaign. With most draft experts projecting several defensive players being selected with the top 10 picks, Haskins should be available when New York is on the clock in late April.
