Report: Former Hawkeye dead at 27

One of Iowa’s all-time defensive greats left the world too soon.
Former Hawkeye defensive back Tyler Sash was found dead by a family member who came to walk his dog, according to KCCI. The cause of death is not known.
Sash was most recently an NFL free agent. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2011 draft and played in the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI victory.
After testing positive for Adderall, Sash was suspended for four games and later released by the Giants. He was charged in 2014 for public intoxication and interference of acts for his role in a late-night scooter chase from police.
The former Hawkeye safety will forever be remembered as a key cog on the 2009 Orange Bowl team. He is Iowa’s all-time leader in interception yards and ranks fifth in Big Ten history in that category.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz was originally scheduled to meet with the media on Tuesday afternoon, but postponed his availability for “a private matter.”
Nothing has been made official yet on how the Hawkeyes will honor Sash.
