Scott Frost buyout: Here is what the Huskers would pay to fire Frost in-season

Nebraska should not have lost to Northwestern to start Year 5 under Scott Frost. Not on paper, anyway.
Predictions had the Huskers beating the Wildcats comfortably Saturday, but predictions were wrong. Partly thanks to Scott Frost’s questionable decision making at times, the Huskers dropped their Week 0 game, 28-31.
Just in case you happen to be wondering, here are the details for Scott Frost’s buyout with the Nebraska Cornhuskers this year:
Nebraska coach Scott Frost’s new contract buyout goes into effect Oct. 1, 2022. If fired next year, he’s owed $7.5M (down from $15M) on a prorated basis, $5M in 2023, $2.5M in 2024 and $1.25M in 2025. If fired without cause before Oct. 1, 2022, the old buyout remains effective.

In other words, the Cornhuskers are not likely to fire Frost any time within the next month unless the university wants to throw $7.5M down the drain. Nebraska recently reworked Frost’s contract to include these terms. On the other hand, this is a disappointing way to start the season in Year 5 under Frost.
The Cornhuskers are back in action next week against North Dakota.
