Scott Frost defends Adrian Martinez after subpar showing vs. Ohio State

With ESPN’s “College GameDay” in attendance, the Nebraska Cornhuskers had an opportunity for a program-defining win vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes on September 28.
Instead, the Buckeyes cemented their status as one of college football’s elite teams by throttling the Huskers, 48-7.
Losing the time of possession battle, 36:54-23:06, and the total yardage battle, 580-231, Nebraska was dominated in every facet of the game. Despite the struggles across the board, head coach Scott Frost stood up for his quarterback, sophomore Adrian Martinez.
Here’s what the coach said, via Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald:
Frost on Martinez: “I can’t believe he needed to be defended.” Says if you know the game and watch it, you know what Martinez was going through Saturday night. Thinks Martinez knows that, too, but he’s a competitor.

Completing just 8-17 pass attempts, Martinez was held to just 47 yards through the air. While he did run the ball effectively – 81 yards on 15 carries – sophomore Maurice Washington and redshirt junior Dedrick Mills were tied for the team-lead in receiving yards with 10.
Throwing three interceptions in the loss, Martinez was also sacked four times for a loss of 23-yards.
Falling to 3-2 with the loss, Nebraska will look to right the ship when they host Northwestern (1-3) on Saturday (4:00PM ET, FOX).
