Nebraska head coach Scott Frost announced Monday that veteran QB Adrian Martinez will be the Cornhuskers’ starting quarterback for their season opener vs Ohio State.

This will mark the third-straight year that Martinez has opened the season as the Huskers’ QB1.

“Adrian’s going to be our quarterback,” Frost told reporters. “I feel like I’ve got two guys that are playing at a really high level.”

Martinez has started most of the last two years for Nebraska, with mixed results. He’s completed 62.4 percent of his passes to go with 4,573 yards, 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Frost chose Martinez over a younger player in redshirt freshman Luke McCaffery, who completed 9-of-12 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns in limited action last season.

Martinez will be looking to reverse Nebraska’s recent failures vs the Buckeyes, as Ohio State has won the last five matchups in this series. Nebraska’s last victory over Ohio State came in 2011.

Kickoff for the opener is slated for 12 p.m. ET in Columbus. The game will be televised on FOX.
