Scott Frost pleased with defensive talent in Nebraska’s 2019 recruiting class

There were a variety of problems that Nebraska endured in Year 1 of the Scott Frost era, but perhaps the most obvious came on the defensive side of the football. That’s why the Huskers spent a good chunk of time recruiting more defensive talent this season.

Now that the 2019 recruiting period is winding down, Frost likes the players Nebraska has signed to play on the defensive side of the ball.

“We just need some more playmakers on that side,” Frost told 247Sports. “We have some, but we need more guys that can change the game on that side of the football. I feel like we got really good, potential game-changing guys at each level of the defense.”

Nebraska’s defense ranked 10th or worse in most major statistical categories in the B1G last fall. While Frost’s offense picked up steam in the second half of the season, the inability to slow down opponents was a major issue throughout the season.

By the end of the year, eight of Nebraska’s 12 opponents scored 30 points or more.

The Huskers currently own the No. 19 recruiting class of 2019 and sits No. 4 in the B1G. It’s a huge step for Frost to land a top 20 class so early in his tenure in Lincoln.

I’m really happy with the class we’re putting together,” Frost said. “We have some young talent on defense that’s going to help us.”
