Bill Moos has quickly become one of the more popular athletic directors in college athletics. In his first two years at Nebraska, the AD has already landed two big-name coaches for the university’s two most popular sports.
First, Moos brought hometown hero and rising star Scott Frost back to Lincoln after a special two-year run in UCF. Last week, Moos was able to ink Fred Hoiberg — a prominent college basketball mind — to a contract to lead the Huskers.
So far, so good.
Moos doesn’t tend to receive much credit for brining Frost back home, though, as many would argue the “hometown hero” would’ve been the head coach of the Huskers regardless of who was in the AD position. But Frost says that’s actually not true.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Frost says he may not have been in Lincoln at all if Moos wasn’t the athletic director.
“I’m as big of a Bill Moos fan as you’ll find,” Frost told the AP. “It was important to me, before I took this job, that we had an athletic director that was going to do everything possible to give the football program, and every sports program what they needed to be successful. Bill hasn’t disappointed me. … I probably wouldn’t be here, possibly wouldn’t be here, if Bill Moos wasn’t the athletic director.”
Perhaps Frost to Nebraska wasn’t quite the guarantee most expected. Maybe Moos deserves a little more credit for getting Frost to coach the Huskers that he’s been given.
Regardless, Moos has done some really good things at Nebraska and has made some popular hires to help boost the football and basketball programs.
