Scott Frost is entering a crucial season for his tenure at Nebraska. As a part of this offseason, he has tried to reload the roster via the transfer portal.

That overhaul especially includes the QB position. The Huskers have brought in Casey Thompson, a veteran contributor at Texas, and Chubba Purdy, a former 4-star prospect who began his career at Florida State.

That duo joins a QB room that includes Logan Smothers and other young players. Smothers did appear a number of times in 2021 during limited action while throwing for over 300 yards with a pair of rushing touchdowns to his credit.

During his B1G Media Days appearance on BTN, Frost addressed that offseason QB battle. He admitted Casey Thompson is the favorite due to his experience, but Frost also admitted he is not concerned how long it takes to determine who the starter is.

“I don’t care. Whenever it’s clear,” said Frost on the timeline for the QB battle. “Obviously Casey’s played a lot of football and is the favorite but we’ve got some talented kids behind him that have done a lot of really good things through the spring and summer. We’re gonna get a lot of reps in fall camp, we’ll figure it out.”

Asked if he will reveal who the starter is when he knows, Frost said that it is “hard to keep secrets at Nebraska.” It doesn’t sound like he plans on revealing that starter ahead of Week 1, but Frost also expects it will be “obvious” who is the starter.

“It’s hard to keep secrets in Nebraska, but as much as we can we like to keep things in-house,” Frost said. “I don’t care if it’s right up to the first game. The people in the program are going to know who’s best and I think it will be pretty clear who’s best with all the reps we get.”
