Arguably the best defensive player from Maryland from the 2020 season is now heading to the SEC.

Monday, linebacker Chance Campbell announced that he has committed to play for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. The former Terrapin announced his intention to transfer out of the Maryland program earlier this offseason.

Campbell had a strong season for the Terps in 2020, leading the squad with 42 tackles as Maryland finished the season with a 2-3 record, playing just 5 of 9 scheduled games. The linebacker was also credited with 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a 34-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Maryland has struggled defensively in recent seasons, but Campbell has provided some stability at the linebacker spot over past two years under Mike Locksley. In 2019, Campbell piled up 54 stops, 4.5 tackles for loss, broke up 3 passes, forced a fumble and collected an interception in 10 games.

In three seasons in College park, Campbell appeared in 26 career games. He will have to years of eligibility remaining at Ole Miss.

The Rebels ended the 2020 season with a 5-5 record, which included a victory over Indiana in the Outback Bowl to end the year. The 2021 season will mark the second year for head coach Lane Kiffin in Oxford.
