SEC head coach reportedly ‘open’ to taking job in the NFL

Florida head coach Dan Mullen has interest in making the jump to the NFL. The news comes on Sunday just days after his Gators got blown out in the Cotton Bowl by Oklahoma.
Mullen is in his third season at Florida and boasts a 29-9 record with two wins from his three bowl games. He spent the previous nine years at Mississippi State where he made eight bowl appearances and led the Bulldogs to a Top 25 finish in three seasons.
In his reporting about Mullen on Sunday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter also said that Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald is open to a move to the NFL. The Wildcats have had a tremendous season under Fitzgerald and beat Auburn 35-19 in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Northwestern made the Big Ten Championship Game this year, losing to Ohio State and entering the postseason at No. 14.
Mullen, who played college football as a tight end at Ursinus, has never coached at the NFL level. The Gators finished the season 8-4.
