Semaj Morgan and Michigan know the special teams battle is no laughing matter against Iowa. Fortunately, Morgan delivered a major blow against the Hawkeyes that set up a short touchdown.

Already up 3-0 thanks to an early field goal, Michigan held Iowa to another first-quarter punt. Tory Taylor — Iowa’s dynamic punter — unleashed a booming kick that pushed Morgan all the way back to his 10-yard line.

Despite the coverage unit closing in, Morgan passed on a fair catch and put the moves on his return. At one point, Morgan appeared encircled, but he hit a stutter step to the outside and raced by the punt unit.

He was eventually tracked down, but not before an 87-yard return completely flipped the field and set up the offense in the red zone.

The ensuing drive was a brief one. Blake Corum carried the ball twice and capped it off with a short touchdown run to give Michigan the 10-0 lead early on.

We’ll see if Iowa has any sort of response, but the Wolverines have opened with a strong 10-0 run in the first quarter.
