Seven B1G basketball standouts listed among 30 midseason candidates for Naismith Trophy

Nearly one-fourth of the midseason candidates for the 2020 Naismith Trophy come from the B1G.

This week, 30 college basketball players were mentioned as midseason candidates for the 2020 Naismith Trophy Men’s Player of The Year. Seven of those players came from the B1G. It’s the most of any conference, nearly doubling the second-highest total.

The ACC and Big East each have four candidates.

Below are the seven B1G midseason players on the watch list for the prestigious award. The list will be narrowed down to 10 semifinalists on March 5 and then trimmed to four finalists on March 17. A winner will be announced on April 5.

  • Ayo Dosunmu, Guard — Illinois
  • Luka Garza, Center — Iowa
  • Daniel Oturu, Center — Minnesota
  • Jalen Smith, Forward — Maryland
  • Lamar Stevens, Forward — Penn State
  • Kaleb Wesson, Forward — Ohio State
  • Cassius Winston, Guard — Michigan State
