It only took Ayo Dosunmu one game into the 2020-21 season to set a new career high in the points category as a member of the Illinois basketball team.
Dosunmu scored 28 points in Illinois 122-58 victory over North Carolina A&T on Wednesday afternoon. It was a solid performance from the Fighting Illini in the first game of the year, dominating from start to finish. Brad Underwood’s bunch certainly looked like the No. 8 team in the country.
Dosunmu scored his 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting, knocking down 5-of-8 shots from 3-point land. The junior had a double-double, grabbing 10 boards throughout the contest. Kofi Cockburn also finished with a double-double in the victory, ending the day with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Adam Miller was a spark for the Illini, as well. He scored 28 points in his debut in Champaign, a new program record for a freshman playing in his first game.
Illinois also set a new program record for 3-pointers made in a single game, knocking down 17 triples.
All around, it was a dominating season opener for the Fighting Illini, who have aspirations of competing for a B1G title and potentially a national championship with so much talent on the floor.
