Ohio State cornerback Sevyn Banks looks poised to be the leader in the secondary this year and he’s pumped about it.
He spoke to Eleven Warriors about it on Monday morning and he seems more than ready to take on a bigger role in Kerry Coombs’ defense.
“I’m definitely ready,” Banks said. “That’s why you come to Ohio State. I sat behind Jeff, Damon Arnette, all these guys. And now it’s my time. It’s going to be your time at some point and now it’s mine.”
Banks also expects to be quite a few plays for the Buckeyes defense this season after not making as many during 2020.
“Every play that I could’ve made, I’m going to make it this year,” Banks said. “Every play that I was that close, I’m going to be that much closer. You know, just learning off of your mistakes and learning off of your past, it’s good.”
For reference, Banks had 23 total tackles (19 solo) with one interception and seven passes defended last season. With the way he’s talking before the season, he intends on shattering those numbers.
OSU will kick their season off on Sept. 2 with a trip to Minnesota. Kickoff will be at 8 p.m. ET.
