Sherrone Moore was recognized as one of the top assistant coaches as a finalist for the 2023 Broyles Award. Ultimately, that honor went to Iowa DC Phil Parker, but Moore remains a figure on the rise in the coaching ranks.
On Tuesday, Moore was recognized at the Broyles Award ceremony, but he turned his comments to recognize Jim Harbaugh. Moore credited his head coach as one of the most influential figures in his life and praised Harbaugh for empowering his coaching staff.
“Probably the most influential person in my life and coach-wise is the head coach at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, to me. I’m very special to be presented with an opportunity, unlike many others,” said Moore. “To be able to coach the offensive line, be the coordinator, call plays and put me in a position to be successful. Great leaders empower, and he really does that throughout the whole staff. It has allowed me to be in this position. Just so thankful for what he’s done.”
Moore was originally added to Michigan’s coaching staff in 2018 as the TEs coach, but he has especially made his rise in the past 3 seasons. In 2021, Moore transitioned to the offensive line coach and co-OC, and the Wolverines have flourished ever since.
For this season, Moore was elevated to sole OC and also served as the acting head coach for 4 games during Harbaugh’s absence. He is bound to be a name in the mix for future head coaching opportunities as Moore continues to flourish in Ann Arbor.
