Social media reacts to news of Urban Meyer’s retirement from Ohio State

The news that Urban Meyer will announce his retirement from Ohio State on Tuesday afternoon came as a surprise to most. While there was some speculation about his future in Columbus, he consistently said he planned to coach in 2019.

Meyer will step down as head coach following the team’s Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2019. The Buckeyes will battle Washington in Pasadena. It’s the program’s first visit since 2009 and the first time Meyer has ever coached in the game.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will take over as head coach at Ohio State.

Meyer accumulated a 85-9 record at Ohio State, including a 54-4 mark in B1G play. He won three B1G titles and a national championship during his career in Columbus.
