Sonny Dykes believes his TCU Horned Frogs have done enough to deserve a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Horned Frogs suffered their 1st loss of the season on Saturday, falling in the Big 12 Championship Game to Kansas State in overtime, 31-28. Coming into the weekend, the Horned Frogs were ranked No. 3 in the CFP rankings.

After the game, Dykes spoke on his teams’ accomplishments, saying he doesn’t think they should be punished for losing a close game to a really good Kansas State team. Dykes continued:

We went through the Big 12, 12-0. We’ve been able to figure out ways to win games like this all year, and today we weren’t able to do it. I think we’re certainly deserving. I think the league is one of the best leagues in the country, to go through that undefeated in the league, certainly we ought to get in. I don’t think we should be punished for coming to the Big 12 Championship Game.

We were (No.) 3 last week. My hope is we’d stay at 3, go tee it up and see how we do.

Regardless of what happens in the B1G and SEC Championship games, it’s assumed that Michigan and Georgia are safely in. With the loss of USC in the PAC-12 Championship, Ohio State is probably also in. That leaves TCU and Alabama fighting for 1 spot in all likelihood.

The CFP committee will release the final rankings on Sunday at Noon ET.
