South Carolina the destination for former Ohio State guard

Former Ohio State guard Meechie Johnson has landed with South Carolina. He made the announcement with a post on social media on Monday.

Johnson entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal after spending two years with the Buckeyes. Last season, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest. He played in 26 games and made 5 starts.

Johnson had one of his best two-game stretches early in the season in game against Bowling Green and Xavier in mid-November. He scored 13 points against the Falcons and followed it up with a 14-point outing against the Musketeers.

Those two games were Johnson’s two-highest-scoring performances of the year.

Johnson is a former 4-star guard from the 2020 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 126 overall prospect for the cycle and a Top 25 point guard.

At South Carolina, Johnson will have three years of eligibility to use with the Gamecocks.
