The first game of the season brought the jitters with it to SDSU.

The Jackrabbits had two false starts to open the game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. A shockingly awful punt didn’t help matters. Watch it here:

The punt traveled just 17 yards before being downed at the 27-yard line. Compare that to the NCAA average punt of 51.2 yards, and the kick was just a bit short. The Jackrabbits failed to get a punt over mid-field twice in the first half of the game.

Despite advantageous field position, the Hawkeyes were not able to capitalize on the blunder. On the next series, the Brian Ferentz-led offense went 3 and out from the plus-27, and missed a 41-yard field goal attempt.

Hopefully for SDSU, the jitters will calm down for their punters. If not, it’s going to be a long season for the Jackrabbits.
