Stamp of Approval: John Beilein supports Juwan Howard hiring

The new era of Michigan basketball has received the stamp of approval from former head coach John Beilein.
On Wednesday, Juwan Howard and the University of Michigan agreed to terms of a reported five-year deal, making the former Fab Five member the next head basketball coach of the Wolverines. The move was met with a warm reception, and even Beilein supported the move.
“(Michigan AD Warde) Manuel had great options in front of him! The selection of Juwan Howard was a fabulous one,” Beilein wrote on Twitter. “He loves UM, knows hoops & has a thirst to coach. He is a great fit to lead UM into the next decade of (Michigan basketball). I will be rooting for Juwan & team every game!”

Howard was among three primary candidates that Manuel was considering for the vacancy Beilein left. Providence head coach Ed Cooley and current Michigan assistant Luke Yaklich were the other two given serious consideration.
Ultimately, Howard’s ties to Michigan and his experience after spending six seasons as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat was enough for UM to offer him the job. And, so far, it’s been a highly-praised move.
A press conference officially announcing Howard’s hiring is expected in the coming days.
