Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook has been cleared for Saturday’s game against Rutgers, according to a report.

Jeff Portrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that the starting quarterback has been cleared for the Badgers’ cross-division matchup against the Scarlet Knights this weekend. Hornibrook had been in concussion protocol and missed last week’s game against Northwestern.

Backup quarterback Jack Coan stepped into the starting role, completing 20-of-31 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. Wisconsin fell to the Wildcats 31-17.

It’s unclear whether this means Hornibrook will participate or if he’ll start against Rutgers, although it would seem likely he’d be under center.

For the year, Hornibrook has throw for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns with six interceptions. The Badgers are 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in B1G play with losses to Michigan and Northwestern. They are currently tied for second in the West with Purdue and Iowa.

Prior to last week’s game, Hornibrook had made an appearance in 37 straight contests for the Badgers. Saturday’s game in Evanston marked the first time the gunslinger hadn’t played since the first game of his freshman season in 2016.

Wisconsin is a 28-point favorite against Rutgers this weekend.
