Chris Ash is able to keep another New Jersey within state boundaries.
On Monday evening, Rutgers received a verbal commitment from three-star athlete Te’Rai Powell, a native of Montvale, N.J. He becomes the ninth player in the 2020 class to pledge to the program and is the fifth in-state player Ash has landed this cycle.
Powell made an announcement via Twitter Monday evening. He thanked several coaches, teachers, family members and teammates in a long message.
“I will continue my academic and athletic career at Rutgers University,” Powell wrote.

Powell is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete who received 14 offers during the recruiting cycle. He picked Rutgers over Army, Bowling Green, Bryant, Central Michigan, UMass and Navy, among others.
He’s one of the top 50 prospects out of New Jersey.
Rutgers doesn’t see much of a jump in the recruiting rankings with the commitment, now sitting 84th nationally. The Scarlet Knights are 13th in the B1G, ahead of Illinois.
