Staying home: Penn State boosts 2023 class with pledge from Top 100 in-state OT

Penn State closed the book on its 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday and now James Franklin and his staff are looking ahead to the next cycle. The Nittany Lions are off to a great start.
Saturday, Penn State received a verbal pledge from Jven Williams, a Reading, Penn., native and a 4-star offensive tackle in the 2023 class. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter.
“First off I would like to thank my mom and pops. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made for me and thank you for providing for me and teach me life long lessons,” Williams wrote. “Lastly I would like to thank the big man upstairs! Thank you God for listening to my prayers and getting me to this point in my life!
“With that being said … I’m staying home!”

Williams is listed as a 6-foot-4, 285-pound offensive tackle. Per 247Sports composite rankings, the Pennsylvania native ranks as the No. 96 overall talent in the 2023 cycle and the No. 10 offensive tackle.
Out of Pennsylvania, Williams ranks as the No. 2 player.
More than a dozen programs offered Williams during the recruiting period. He picked Penn State over offers from Boston College, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina, USC and many others.
Penn State is now up to 7 commitments in the 2023 recruiting class. It sits atop the B1G standings and owns a Top 5 class nationally.
