College football players put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the upcoming season. This weekend, Illinois head coach Bret Bielema wanted to reward his guys for their efforts with a day of fun.

Members of Illinois’ football team enjoyed a day in a different kind of helmet and protective equipment, heading out to do a little paintballing. Several photos of the afternoon excursion made their way to Twitter.

It seemed that everyone was having a pretty enjoyable time:

It’s always fun to see teams enjoying some fun off the football field. This might’ve served as a good team-building experience for the Fighting Illini, as well.

This season will be the first for Illinois under Bielema, who was hired to coach the program in December. Illinois will be on the national stage from the start of the season, opening in Week 0 with a home game against B1G West foe Nebraska.
