Sweeping the Badgers: Illinois trolls Wisconsin after thrilling win in Madison

Stunning Wisconsin seems to be Illinois’ thing this year. First, the Illini shocked the world with an upset victory over the sixth-ranked Badgers on the gridiron during football season. On Wednesday, they walked into Madison and left with a win on the hardwood.

Illinois defeated Wisconsin 71-70 in Madison on Wednesday night, grabbing its first road win of B1G play in the 2019-20 season. And after the victory, Illinois Athletics couldn’t resist the urge to troll the Badgers a bit on Twitter.

With the headline “Sup, Badgers,” Illinois tweeted out two photos: one of James McCourt drilling the game-winning field goal to defeat Wisconsin in Champaign in mid-October, and the other of the Illini basketball team celebrating the one-point win on Thursday night.

The Badgers won’t get a shot at redemption, either. Thursday night’s game in Madison is the only time the two teams meet in basketball (barring a matchup in the Big Ten Tournament), meaning the Illini swept the series on the field and on the court.

Not a bad year for Illinois. Who can blame them for enjoying those two victories a little bit longer?

With the win on Thursday night, the Illini improved to 11-5 on the season and 3-2 in B1G play.
