Terrence Shannon Jr. has been talked about as a leader for the Illinois basketball program by coach Brad Underwood. Shannon showed how he’s been doing that in an interview after the season opener.

Shannon stated that he has been organizing team meetings ever since joining the program from Texas Tech. He explained that he doesn’t feel like he can really call his teammates brothers if he doesn’t know them well enough off the court.

“I just feel like if we’re going to go out on the court together and call each other brothers, how are we going to call each other brothers if we don’t really know each other?” said Shannon.

Shannon was Illinois’ leading scorer in the win over Eastern Illinois with 24 points. Shannon also had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Fighting Illini improved to 1-0 on the year after beating Eastern Illinois 87-57. Illinois faces Kansas City in its second game of the year on Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. ET on BTN.
