Terry McLaurin activated off PUP list, extension talks with Commanders still ongoing

Terry McLaurin has made his demands clear. The star Washington Commanders wide receiver is looking for a contract extension.
McLaurin began training camp on the team’s physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to an ankle injury. On Saturday, though, the Commanders removed him from the list, clearing the way for him to eventually practice.
That doesn’t necessarily mean McLaurin is close to a deal, however. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, “there is no indication of progress on an extension.” And Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has said that the move “was not related to the contract talks,” according to ESPN’s John Keim.
McLaurin, on his end, has requested a trade from the organization amid the contract impasse. That said, there’s been no clear indication that Washington wants to move him.
The former Ohio State standout, a third round pick for Washington in 2019, has 6 straight seasons of 1,000 or more yards receiving and has missed just 3 games in his entire NFL career. In 2022, he had a career-best 1,191 receiving yards.
In 2024, McLaurin built a solid partnership with Jayden Daniels as the Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991. His 16 receiving touchdowns that year were a career high.
