Texas landed 5-star QB prospect Maalik Murphy on Saturday afternoon, which could ultimately have an impact on Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class.

This verbal effectively takes the Longhorns out of pursuing current OSU commitment (an No. 1 overall player) Quinn Ewers.
Ewers is a 5-star from Southlake, Texas, and was committed to the Longhorns earlier in the cycle. There’s been some speculation that he may consider Texas again after the school replaced Tom Herman with Steve Sarkisian.
But with the Longhorns bringing Murphy on board, it seems any chance of a reunion with Ewers is lost.
Ewers currently has a 1.0000 rating on 247Sports Composite, which would place him amongst some elite company in the history of recruiting. There have only been five players in history to reach that benchmark, according to the composite.
As it stands today, Ohio State owns the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the country per 247Sports Composite rankings. The Buckeyes have 10 commitments already, including three 5-star prospects.
There’s still a lot of time left before the Early Signing Period in December, but Ohio State is off to a great start on the trail.
