Urban Meyer has a better understanding of Ohio State’s roster makeup than most. After all, he was the one who assembled a good portion of it, stepping down as head coach just two seasons ago.
But that doesn’t make the former head coach any less impressed by what he sees in Columbus. He believes that the Buckeyes have, by far, the best roster in the B1G.
Ohio State is the preseason favorite to win the B1G, which would be the program’s fourth-straight conference title. It’s also considered a frontrunner for the national title, along with teams like Clemson, Alabama and Georgia.
“First of all, it’s an NFL roster. I sat there going through, every player on their roster, offense, defense, will be in the NFL. Think about that,” Meyer said on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff. “The only question is the secondary. You have Josh Proctor, Cam Brown, Sevyn Banks. Young players, highly recruited players replacing high draft picks in the NFL. That’s the only question mark.
“I think, as long as they stay healthy — the only thing that concerns Ohio State is Covid[-19]. That’s the only thing that can slow that team down.”
The Buckeyes are coming off a 13-1 season a year ago. They’ll open the 2020 season at home against Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 24.
