Ohio State offensive lineman Thayer Munford was one of six Buckeyes to be named as a captain earlier this week.
Perhaps the best part of that process for Munford was letting his mom, Melisa, know about the accomplishment. Here’s a video of Munford and Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa making that phone call:

“We are all amazed at what he’s accomplished so I wanted to make sure that we let you know first,” Studrawa said on the call.
Joining Munford as a team captain is senior defensive tackle Haskell Garrett, junior receiver Kamryn Babb, senior linebacker Teradja Mitchell, senior receiver Chris Olave and junior defensive end Zach Harrison.
Munford was one of the best offensive linemen in the country last season and could have pursued the NFL. Instead, he’s back for another season with the Buckeyes as they search for their first National Championship under coach Ryan Day.
Ohio State opens its 2021 season with Minnesota on Sept. 2.
