While it’s not a traditional rivalry game, there’s no doubt that the intensity between Ohio State and Penn State has ratcheted up quite a bit over the last five seasons. Though the Nittany Lions have only dethroned the Buckeyes once under James Franklin, they’ve been one of the most consistent competitors to the B1G champs.
The rivalry has spilled over into Twitter and on the recruiting front. Two members of the 2022 recruiting class recently traded some jabs on social media over it, too.
Earlier this week, 4-star defensive end and Penn State pledge Ken Talley made the comment that the Nittany Lions are recruiting on another level right now. In the process, he took a shot at Ohio State.
“No other school recruiting like us,” Talley said on Twitter. “Ohio State commits just committed there for fun not to actually have a chance to get playing time.”
Caleb Burton, a 5-star wide receiver and Buckeyes commit, did not let that comment slide.
“Focus on y’all side,” Burton responded. “We straight lol.”

Right now, Ohio State and Penn State have the nation’s Top 2 recruiting classes. The Buckeyes sit at No. 1 with 17 total commits, 15 of which have a 4- or 5-star rating. Penn State has received verbal pledges from 18 prospects and 10 own a 4-star ranking.
It’s been quite an interesting battle on the recruiting front, and it’s getting as chippy on social media as it does on the field.
