Wisconsin basketball got a big win on the road, a Christmas present of sorts for the Badgers.

An 85-76 win at Michigan State was a statement win for the program, elevating the No. 9 Badgers to 8-1 on the season. The loss dropped the No. 12 Spartans to 6-2.

But beyond the ripple effect within the Big Ten, it was a big moment for Wisconsin…and in particular head coach Greg Gard.

After the big win from Wisconsin, there was quite the celebration in the visiting locker room afterwards. But why?

Now in his sixth season at Wisconsin, Gard has never won at Michigan State. In fact, the Breslin Center has been a moderate-sized house of horrors for the program.

Wisconsin hasn’t won at Michigan State in over a decade, having dropped their last 12 decisions at the Spartans.

A little Christmas cheer, for Wisconsin for sure.
