Yahoo Sports released their latest Heisman Trophy watch list for Week 10 on Wednesday and three B1G players appeared on the list. However, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield surged to the top of the list after throwing for 598 passing yards and five touchdowns, along with a rushing score, against Oklahoma State last Saturday.

The highest ranked B1G player is Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, who appeared third on the list. Barkley has struggled in recent weeks, causing him to slip in the Heisman Trophy race. He posted just 63 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards, along with a passing touchdown, against Michigan State last Saturday.

Barkley hasn’t gotten much help from the PSU offensive line this year, but his 864 rushing yards, though they don’t sum up the totality of his impact, is just a really underwhelming figure. … With big numbers down the stretch against Rutgers, Nebraska and Maryland, he could find himself right back at the top before it’s all said and done.

Wisconsin freshman running back Jonathan Taylor also appeared inside the top five on Yahoo’s Heisman Trophy watch list, as they penciled Taylor fourth.

The fact that Jonathan Taylor’s 183 yards in Wisconsin’s 45-17 win over Indiana is his fourth-best performance of his season tells you a lot about what he has done this year. … Taylor, with 1,368 yards, is now third in the country in rushing yards.

Barkley and Taylor were the only two B1G players to crack the top five. But, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett made the “Also Considered” portion of Yahoo’s Heisman Trophy standings.

After entering last Saturday with just one interception all year, Barrett three four in an embarrassing 55-24 loss against Iowa. His brutal performance likely gives Barrett a slim chance of finishing in contention for the Heisman Trophy.
