College football broadcaster Tim Brando is back again with his takeaways from the past week, and the Big Ten got plenty of mention.

Brando led off the segment by giving praise to Ohio State, who won comfortably on the road at Penn State on Saturday night.

“In the Big Ten, Ohio State was great again,” Brando said. “Took care of business in Happy Valley, no need for a White Out. Business as usual for Justin Fields, they get the job done.”

The Buckeyes won 38-25, but it wasn’t as close as the score would indicate. Ohio State out-gained Penn State 526 to 325 in the win.

Brando also discussed Michigan State’s improbable upset over in-state rival Michigan. Brando indicated he was especially impressed with Spartans QB Rocky Lombardi, who completed 17-of-32 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns in the 27-24 win.

“This kid named Rocky, Rocky Lombardi managed the game beautifully,” Brando said. “Touchdown passes thrown that were key. He led his team on a long drive late and he didn’t turn the ball over. And the Spartans of Michigan State, in that intra-state rivalry game, pull off the upset of upsets in the Big Ten. The same team that lost at home to Rutgers, went on the road to the Big House to get Mel Tucker his first victory in the Big Ten.”

Brando also dropped a very interesting nugget about Tucker’s first win coming on the road at Michigan:

“Oh by the way, the last time a first-year coach at Michigan State got his victory at the home of the Wolverines?” Brando asked. “The man’s name was Nick Saban.”
