Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is coming under fire in Jacksonville after a viral video of a girl dancing on him spread across social media.

The Jacksonville Jaguars coach is receiving support from one of his former stars. Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, who Meyer coached while at Florida, explained how he felt when learning about the situation.

“When I first saw and heard about what happened, my heart was hurting for Miss Shelley – coach’s wife – someone that I love very much, and his daughters…” Tebow said during Friday’s appearance on ESPN’s First Take. “It’s a very difficult week, and my advice to him was to apologize, to admit it, to learn from it, and to never, never repeat it. Coach shared with me that it was one of the hardest times of his life. He apologized, but he didn’t need to apologize to me.”

Tebow describes what it will take for Meyer to overcome this situation and regain trust:

“I do think for some of the guys, he will have to earn back their trust and respect,” explained Tebow. “I think he really wants to do that. This is not something that anybody in his family takes lightly…but I also know coach isn’t taking it lightly, and he knows what a big deal this is, and how disappointing it is to so many people.”

Tebow came out of retirement to play for the Jaguars before getting cut in the preseason.

Meyer has captured three national championships (2 with Florida, 1 with Ohio State) and has posted a 187-32 record as a college football head coach. Meyer stepped away from coaching after the 2018 season because of health reasons and served as a broadcaster for FOX and the Big Ten Network during his retirement.

Since reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2017, the Jaguars have posted three consecutive losing seasons. This season, the Jaguars are off to an 0-4 start.
