Maryland Stadium’s seat capacity will increase by a few thousand in a few weeks when the Terrapins host Penn State on Friday, Sept. 27.

Thursday afternoon, the University of Maryland Athletics Department announced via Twitter that, due to the high volume of ticket requests for the Penn State game, it will be bringing in additional student seating for the game. As of Wednesday, there were 13,000 student ticket requests to watch the Terrapins take on the Nittany Lions.

Student seating capacity at Maryland Stadium is 10,000. The school did not reveal in its initial announcement how many additional seats will be available.

The Mike Locksley era is off to a hot start, with Maryland beginning the 2019 season 2-0. But it’s the way the Terrapins have won those first two games. They blew out both Howard (79-0) and No. 21 Syracuse (63-20) to make a huge statement.

Now, Maryland is ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press poll with a chance to get a win over Temple and improve to 3-0 before taking a week off and going toe-to-toe with Penn State.

Interest is already at an all-time high. It will only increase if both teams are 3-0 heading into that B1G East matchup.
