No. 3 Ohio State is two wins away from a national championship but ESPN’s Todd McShay has dropped quarterback Justin Fields in his newest mock draft.

After throwing for no touchdowns and two interceptions in the B1G title game vs. Northwestern, Fields has fallen to No. 9 on McShay’s list.

Fields is the No. 3 quarterback on the list, behind top-ranked Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and BYU’s Zach Wilson (No. 8).

McShay specifically referenced Fields’ three-interception performance vs. Indiana as an example of his reasoning. McShay believes Fields still has room to grow from a football IQ standpoint.

“I think he gets stuck on his primary a little too much,” McShay said via 247Sports. “He’s still developing mentally as a quarterback, and learning to go through his progressions. He’s going to be a Top-10 pick. I think there is very little question about it.”

Fields has totaled 1,521 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions through the air and 274 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground this season. Last season, Fields burst on the scene as a Heisman finalist with 51 total touchdowns (41 passing, 10 rushing) en route to guiding Ohio State to the College Football Playoff.

Fields and Ohio State will seek redemption on New Year’s Day in a CFP semifinal rematch vs. Lawrence and No. 2 Clemson. Clemson defeated Ohio State 29-23 in last season’s CFP semifinal matchup.

Kickoff for the Sugar Bowl is slated for 7 p.m. CST and will be televised on ESPN.
